Government Funding for 3 and 4 year olds
All children aged 3 and over are entitled to up to 15 hours government funding the term after they are 3. Some children are eligible for a further 15 hours under the Government's 30 hours scheme. However at Smilers Pre-School we are only open for 27 hours a week.

We do offer the 15 hours of sessions to all our children depending on availability from the term after their 3rd birthday. We are a term time only setting so these hours will be claimed over 38 weeks per year. Hours can only be claimed per session (3 hour blocks) and not per hour. Therefore children can access up to 5 sessions per week for free. The only session that is not funded by the government scheme at our setting is lunch club. This is an additional cost of £4 for 30 minutes each day.
Children born before 31st August can claim their funding from the following September.
Children born before 31st December can claim their funding from the following January.
Children born before 31st March can claim their funding from the following April.
Parents that wish to claim funding will need to complete a parental declaration and produce a copy of their child's birth certificate or passport.
Invoices will be issued at the beginning of every term detailing funded hours and chargeable hours.
This will all be explained in detail when you apply for your place at Smilers Pre-school.
2 year old funding
Smilers Pre-School offers free places for some 2 year olds under the KCC Free For 2 scheme. Please enquire within the setting for further information on eligibility.
From January 2024, eligible working parents of 2-year-olds will be able to register to access 15 hours free childcare per week from April 2024, the first step in the government’s long-term plan to give working families a brighter future.
We recommend those eligible apply between mid-January and the end of February.
Parents can apply via Childcare Choices.
